Stone collection
If you click on the photo it will take you to my Flickr stream
where I've put tags on each of the stones so you can see where they're from.
The crochet covered stoned are mostly made by my friend
Margie Oomen from Resurrection Fern.
The little porcelain pebbles are from Manos by Karin Eriksson.
The big white porcelain stone was handmade by Paula Valentim from Otchipotchi.

Lakshmi Menon's Magazine Cover & Editorial for (Brazil) Wish Report, August 2009

I absolutely love this cover and editorial. Lakshmi is probably one of the most beautiful women in the world. And Wish Report Brazil is really a great magazine. They did a story with Hye Park last year, which was spectacular.

What's Coming Next Week

Next week I'll finally be posting about stamps and texture tools. I know I haven't done a how-to lately, but hopefully this will serve as one. I'll be discussing tools...

... how to make them...

... how to modify them...

... how to take care of them...

... and of course, how to use them...

In the meantime, happy creating!

Flower Pattern

Pattern
Playing around with some flower doodles I drew with a micron pen.
These pens are my all time favorite to draw with & to write on my journal.
I always buy the 005. I love the precision of the ultra thin line.

Felt birds WIP

Felt bird WIP
Working on some felt birdies I was working on two Xmases ago :p
I had totally forgotten about them.
I modified this cool pattern to make my birds.
And I bought the beautiful vintage wool from my friend Carlene.

We cannot go back

Maybe art, maybe some art, maybe this art, maybe some of this art, serves turning the absence opaque, that is, making it at once palpable and impenetrable, so we cannot go back, so we are stuck in the appreciation of this strange, utopic now, and any attempt to overcome it, to look for the actual empty space, meets the opacity of an object, an image, a substitute, substitute not of a reality, but of what ceased to be, of the void that hence remains beyond us, happily or unhappily, hard to say, replaced by the fundamentally meager and helplessly sublime moment of a hesitant, aesthetic, experience, too private to be credible, too credible to be intimate, and yet ours, because we want it to be, because we claim it as such, because we know we inherited it from the silence that came before.

The picture - entitled (...) - is by Marek Wykowski. (Found by Gocha)

Following In Her Footsteps

Energized and inspired by last week's interview with Sherrill Kahn and the peek we were given at her new work, Monday morning found me setting up the wet studio for some marathon fabric painting. I used to spend days and days doing this- mostly on paper and wood- and I have missed it a lot, lately.

While this may look like a total mess, it's actually lightning in a bottle. Arranged on the table within reach are many different kinds of paints- Lumiere, Neopaque, Jacquard Textile paints, Dye-Na-Flow and even some of my dwindling supply of Sherrill's Sorbets- a bunch of hand-made stamps, sponges, brushes, paint palettes, water and all kinds of painting grounds from white fabric to pre-painted papers. Plus, of course, coffee- lots of coffee.

Using techniques demo'd in Sherrill's video, I reacquainted myself with the joys of  painting with abandon. All of the pieces I painted ranged in size from about 28"x18" to 8"x11". No ground safe, no technique untried, nothing was "finished" until it screamed at me to stop. Here's what I've created so far.

No idea what these beauties will be used for, and there are more in progress on the table, waiting for another painting session tomorrow.

Happy creating!

A Clean Slate

June page
A clean slate
May page
This is what my journal/planner looks like before I fill in each day.
I sit down every two weeks and collage/draw/paint on it
making sure I leave some space for writing each day.
I'll show you what it will look like after filling it all up.
Hope you have a great week!
Thanks Sofia for the beautiful bits from New Zealand
that are now part of my journal :)

Lizards

Lizards
Brenda Dumont, one of my lovely blog visitors wrote to me this week suggesting I should paint some lizards. I thought it was a great idea, so I did & here they are :)
Thank you Brenda, I had lots of fun painting them!
