تعيين حسام حسن مديرا فنيا لنادي الزمالك

اعلنت قناة الحياة وقناة مودرن سبورت انه تم عرض على الكابتن حسام حسن ان يكون مديرا فنيا لنادي الزمالك خلفا لهنري ميشيل الطلب الذي قوبل بالموافقة من قبل الكابت حسام.

وكان هنري ميشيل قد تولى مهمة تدريب نادي الزمالك وحقق معه نتائج سيئة عبارة عن 5 هزائم في عشر مباريات، وقد صرح ميشيل ان المشاكل بين اللاعبين في النادي تتخطى كرة القدم محاولا تبرئا موقفه كما انه رفض الاستقالة، وقد تم اقالته وطلب حسام حسن ليصبح مديرا فنيا .
وتعتبر هذه الموافقة موافقة مبدأية حيث يجرى الان اجتماع بين مجلس ادارة النادي في منزل ممدوح عباس مدير النادي للنقاش حول تفاصيل العقد.
وعليه يتولى حسام حسن مهمة ادارة الزمالك فنيا كما يتم تعيين ايمن منصور مديرا للكرة بالنادي، وقد اعلن كابتن احمد شوبير في برنامج الكورة مع شوبير انه تم الاتصال بالكابتن حسام حسن بالامارات هاتفيا واعرب عن موافقته
يذكر ان هزيمة الزمالك الاخرة امام اتحاد الشرطة شهدت احداثا مؤسفة مثل هجوم الجمهور على اللاعبين وبكاء كل من شيكابالا وحازم امام بعد هدف اتحاد الشرطة الثاني ، شاهد:

توفيت صباح الاحد 29 نوفمبر 2009 الاميرة فريال اكبر بنات الملك فاروق اخر ملوك مصر في جنيف بسويسرا عن عمر يناهز 71 عاما بعد صراع مع مرض سرطان المعدة الذي دام 7 سنوات.
وسيتم نقل جثمان الفقيدة الى مصر في غضون يوم او اثنين لاتمام مراسم العزاء.

والاميرة فريال ولدت عام 1938 بمدينة الأسكندرية، وهى كبرى بنات الملك فاروق من زوجته الأولى فريدة، وقد تلقت تعليمها بمدرسة داخلية خاصة فى سويسرا، حيث كانت تعيش حتى وفاتها، ولم يتبق بذلك من العائلة المالكة سوى الأمير أحمد فؤاد ابن الملك فاروق الذى كان من المقرر أن يخلف أباه فى العرش، إلا أنه انضم إلى عائلته بالمنفى بعد الثورة فى 1952 وإعلان الجمهورية.

106 هي حصيلة ضحايا السيول حتى الان، تلك السيول التي هطرت على منطقة جدة بالمملكة العربية السعودية - 200 كيلو متر من مكة المكرمة - في حين توقعت هيئة الدفاع المدني بالمملكة زيادة عدد الضحايا في الايام القادمة.
وقد حذرت هيئة الدفاع المدني المواطنين من الاقتراب من اماكن تجمع المياه خوفا من انتئار الامراض والاوبئة.
في حين لم يشتك الحجاج من هطول الامطار في مكة وقد اعلنت هيئات الارصاد الجوية عدم تنبأها بهطول امطار غزيرة على مكة المكرمة ولكن قد تسقط امطار قليلة.



من جانبه قال المحامي السعودي وليد أبوالخير إنه سيقاضي أمانة مدينة جدة، مؤكداً أن عائلات ضحايا السيول تدعمه وأنه يعتزم التنديد بفشل نظام الصرف الصحي في المدينة.

وقال أبوالخير إن مسؤولي أمانة مدينة جدة لم يقوموا بأعمال الصرف الصحي رغم أنهم يقولون منذ ثلاث سنوات او أكثر إنهم فعلوا ذلك، مؤكداً أن مسؤولي المدينة أنفسهم أقروا بوجود أخطاء.
وعن الرأي العلمي افادت مصادر من هيئة الارصاد ان تلك السيول هي سيول منقولة اي انها من مناطق اخرى سقطت بها الامطار ولم تسقط تلك الامطار في منطقة جدة تحديدا.

وفاة رشا ياسين المذيعة بقناة مودرن سبورت بسكتة قلبية

توفيت يوم امس الجمعة 27 نوفمبر 2009 المذيعة والاعلامية بقناة مودرن سبورت رشا ياسين اثر ازمة قلبية مفاجئة تعرضت لها صباح يوم العيد.
بدأت رشا ياسين عملها كمراسلة فى قناة مودرن سبورت لتغطية المباريات من أرض الملعب قبل ان تقوم بعمل برنامج خاص بها وهو " ستاد حواء" منذ شهرين.

وقد سافرت الإعلامية الراحلة رفقة المنتخب المصري إلي السودان لملاقاة نظيره الجزائري في المباراة التي انتهت بفوز الأخير بهدف نظيف وتأهله للمونديال.
ومن جانبه أكد وليد دعبس رئيس قناة مودرن سبورت أن القناة ستقدم لأسرة الفقيدة كل الدعم لتجاوز محنتهم.

Back home

We are back from a wonderful time by the sea.
It's great to be home even if it's for a very short while,
I'll be savoring these last days at this beautiful house that Manolo built for us,
but also looking forward to the next one he'll make.

Choices, And A Decision

Let me start by saying, holy cow...

... chartreuse has arrived! Finally I'm pleased and I think Mom will be, too. These fifteen yards are going to make a gorgeous rag-rug!

Also, I want to thank all of you for your amazing and innovative suggestions for completing my latest piece. I frequently use the phrase, "The Brain Trust" when describing to friends and family the community of quilters and artists I am fortunate enough to hang out with. This is not without good reason... no smoke being blown up your skirts, here. The breadth and depth of your quilting knowledge alone is extraordinary, but you each have a very deep bench because you've also got a passionate, intense artistry that is immensely inspiring. Thank you all for your willingness to share what you know and feel with the rest of us!

I went back and forth for days about how best to give this piece a proper finish. It has become, for now, My Latest Favorite, and I wanted very much to honor the spirit in which it was made, and my thought processes as I was constructing it. I did over-think it, in the end. But then it occurred to me: if I don't think about my art, sometimes even think about it a lot, who else will?

So the piece, which I came to think of as 'Squall' because of the stormy sunset color palette, is now finished and there's kind of a funny story to go with it. I am posting a hi-res version so if you click on it, you'll see more detail than this photo can offer.

After thinking through many different options, I finally settled on one of the simplest finishes and the one I knew I could do well... the pillowcase turn I had envisioned from the start. But how to allow the fraying and stitch work, the heart of what I wanted to express, to remain exposed? The solution was ridiculously easy: take a page from my experimentation with my pleat and snip work and construct the pillowcase top as a separate unit- then simply stitch the two pieces together.

I had a beautiful hand-dyed teal green fabric just begging to become the backing for this piece but because I'm not known for my measuring abilities (stop laughing, I'm a total left-brainer), I decided to make a template to use to cut my fabrics and define my stitch lines. I could sandwich my "pillowtop" the usual way (fabric, batting, fabric), trace the template onto it, sew, trim, turn, poof- instant backing!

While searching for something large enough to cut my template from, I came across a sheet of fabric paper I'd made a few years ago back when that was the craze. Honestly, I'd never had a lot of luck with laminating fabric to paper, though I gave it many tries. Finally, in a last ditch effort to make it work, I tried laminating dyed cheesecloth to painted paper. The cheesecloth adhered beautifully, but I wasn't crazy about the final piece, so I stuck it away in my paper storage unit and forgot about it.

I dragged it out yesterday and realized that not only did it have a appropriate textile texture, but the colors were an almost exact match for my piece. I laid the completed stitchwork on top of it and knew they were a perfect fit, they had to be together. I didn't even alter the cheescloth paper, either- it was the perfect size, and was as close to square as I was ever going to get, so- abandoning the beautiful teal hand-dyed pillowtop idea- I stitched the quilttop to the cheesecloth paper and called it done.

The biggest concession I made for this piece was that it will have to be framed. I swore to myself that I'd stop making art that needs to be behind glass (how Approachable is that, I ask you?!) but I guess there will be work from time to time that requires me to compromise on that point.

Now that I've given birth to Squall, I think I'll take a few days off, guilt-free. Happy creating and Happy Thanksgiving!

Liu Wen Walks For Victoria's Secret, 2009-2010

Liu Wen became only the second third Asian model to walk the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last week. Most news outlets incorrectly reported Liu Wen as the first Asian model to do the show.

The first honor went to Ujjwala Raut who did the show in 2003-2004 show Yasmeen Ghauri who walked for the show in 1996 (unconfirmed), followed by Ujjwala Raut in the 2003-4 show.

The 2009-2010 Victoria's Secrety show will be aired on CBS on December 1st.

Trailer Trashed!

A long-time online friend of mine from my favorite online hang-out, Radio Paradise, is the Director of Communications for the Recycling Committee of British Columbia and she's asking all you creative folks to help out and possibly win some cash in the process.

The Song Is You

It might seem innocent.

Yes, this is innocence. It is the purity of what happens when the postmodernisms and the camps and the sooavantgardes have made their statements and played their anti-tunes, and yet, we are still there, trying to listen in to that something special.

Call us romantic. Call us Those Who Couldn't Stand The Progress And Stepped Back.Retrograded, taking the easy way out, exploring the (music's, world's, history's) feedback.

Yet feedback is not the sound that comes back to its source. It is not the echo. It is the echo used as an input.
Thus, what you call feedback is the mere beginning, the source material of the process of creation. As the world comes back crumbling to the imperfection of our ever-childish senses, our feeble gestures, breaking through our inherited self-irony, make things possible. Better, they give us back the light.

The Gospel was right: The meek shall inherit the Earth. Actually, they've inherited it already. Along with the self-irony, they took what was most precious, and what many deemed lost - the damn aura. Yes, the damn aura still shining and glowing through all the mechanical reproductions. We still want their bloody flesh, we still want to know this is where it's at, right here, between the stage and you, between the song and you.

All this crossed my mind when watching the brilliant The Song Is You festival at Powiększenie in Warsaw recently.
The song that stayed with me the most was simple.
Here it is:

Do you get it? Beyond the gorgeous lyrics, can you feel how it was, listening to it in the club basement, with the grand piano behind Momus, the lights, the weekend dying away? Or can you imagine it? How different is the song you hear from mine?

Fray Me, Baby!

I've been obsessed all week with these fabrics, which I showed you in one of my last posts.

Something about the moody, almost bruised color palette stuck in my mind along with the weirdly opposing vibrancy of the hand-dyed fabrics, and just wouldn't let go. It asked to become an art piece.

Both the base fabric (in teal green) and mostly-purple piece (at the top of the photo) are hand dyed cotton fat quarters from my latest gradation.

The largest accent fabric was done on a lightweight, hand-dyed, pale green cotton that started its life as a bed sheet. I splattered and squirted multiple colors of alcohol inks onto it, let it dry and then ironed it nearly to death. To emphasize the somewhat circular pattern, I dripped clean isopropyl alcohol onto it from an eye dropper. If you've ever worked with alcohol inks on paper or other surfaces, you know that this will "push" the other pigments away and form variously sized dots with somewhat hard (visual) edges. Later, I would use these dots as guidelines for free-motion quilting a rock pattern.

I used two other accent fabrics. One is the back of a piece of painted and stamped duck cloth (the back turned out to be more interesting than the front), and the other, a piece of artist's canvas, was painted, stamped and dyed (really, I threw the kitchen sink at that one; I'm amazed it didn't just dissolve in protest).

I've developed an interesting little technique. When I work with paper, I know that I can tear it in many ways to achieve an almost endless variety of effects. Cotton fabric is, of course, stubbornly different in that way- you have a warp, you have a weft and you are obliged to work within that structure. If you tear the fabric, you can't achieve a "deckled" edge in the shape of your choosing; you get a straight edge with fraying.

I've found, however, that if I cut a piece of fabric- well, really the term I'm looking for here is hack- if I "hack" at a piece of fabric with either my straight-edged scissors or my pinking sheers and then launder the fabric as usual, I can control my beloved thread schmutz to a much greater degree and get a variety of organic shapes.

I used this technique to create several "distressed" strips of each of my fabrics, which will become focal points in the final piece.

When I do any kind of collage work, throughout the process, I snap photos of designs I particularly like. I tweak the design over hours or days (sometimes months, truthfully) and then before I begin final assembly, I take a few more photos- what I call "down-and-dirty shots". I don't care about color correction, angles or lighting for these shots, I just want a record of my final design decisions.

 

So enough about the individual components. Onto the construction!

My focus over the years in my painted work was always to bring the strict structure of hard, simple lines and geometric shapes together to work in harmony with more distressed, aged and chaotic themes. It seems only natural that my textile work now follows that same progression.

In this piece, I used the intentionally tattered remnants of my chosen fabrics to emphasize my desire to produce order from chaos. They lay in a tangle against tightly-stitched, meticulously pieced background work, reminding me that without a little wildness, structure quickly becomes stricture. I used a few raw-edged appliques, as well, and haven't fussed too much over them wanting to get in on the fraying action, too.

One more thing to tell you about before I show you the final piece (and then ask for an opinion). I am exploring new ways to finish a quilt top. I hate binding a quilt, and it reminds me too intimately of being boxed in, something I've fought against for a very long time. For this piece, I constructed the whole thing on a large piece of un-primed artists' canvas. I sort of had a vague idea when I started that I could, when all the decorative stitching was done, sew it to another piece of the canvas and then do a pillowcase turn on it. Maybe even paint the back with matching acrylic paints.

At first, the whole thing was very stiff and unyielding, but as the canvas stretched and was worked into, it began to soften, fray and generally loosen up. Before I was finished with my quilting of the piece, I was already considering not doing anything more to the piece to bind it. The layers of fabric combined with the heavy thread work has made the sides too inflexible to fold them back and get a nice flat final seam.

Now I am thinking about leaving the piece as it is, without any kind of binding. After all, what is finishing and trim for? To cover all the raw, messy edges. I've spent my life trying to cover my raw, messy edges and I've finally realized that it's the frayed parts of me, the parts worn down with hardships and laughter and years, that are my contrast and texture.

So I ask the quilting experts, and beginners- would you finish this piece or leave it raw with all of its work exposed?

مبارك : مصر لا تقبل المساس بكرامة ابنائها

في افتتاح الدرورة البرلمانية الجديدة لمجلسي الشعب والشورى قال الريس مبارك في بيان القاه بمجلس الشعب المصري ان كرامة مصر من كرامة ابنائها ومصر لا تتهاون مع من ينتهك كرامتها.
وقد قال الرئيس مبارك في خطابه :

"إننى كرئيس لكل المصريين أؤمن بأننا جميعا فى خندق واحد ندافع عن القيم والمصالح المشتركة لشعبنا وتجمعنا وحدة الهدف والمصير وإننى أمد يدى لكل مصرى ومصرية لنعمل يدا بيد من أجل الوطن"

وأكد الرئيس حسنى مبارك، أن الدولة لن تقبل أى إهانة أو تطاول على مواطنيها بالخارج وأنها مسئولة تماماً عن حماية مواطنيها، مشيراً إلى أن كرامة المصريين من كرامة مصر، مكرراً إياها أكثر من مرة ، وشدد "لن نقبل أن يهين أحد كرامة مصر".
يأتي ذلك بعد تعرض البعثة المصرية في السودان لاعتداءات جزائرية عقب مباراة مصر والجزائر المؤهلة للمونديال يوم 18 نوفمبر الجاري، ووردت انباء عن تعرض عدد من المصريين لاصابات وجروح بالاضافة لاصابة عدد من الفنانين والمشاهير المصريين.

وفي نفس الاطار عبرت الحكومة الجزائرية عن نيتها عن مقاطعة الافلام والمسلسلات المصرية ومنع عرضها على شاشات التلفزيون الجزائري.
كما عقب الاعلام الاسرائيلي بسخرية وتهكم ووصف البلدين بالتخلف معربا عن امل في فتنة مماثلة بين فتح وحماس !!

شاهد تمريرة بيد تيري هنري اهلت فرنسا لمونديال 2010

قام اللاعب تيري هنري في مباراة بلاده في تصفيات كاس العالم 2010 بتمرير الكرة داخل منطقة الجزاء الى لاعب الهجوم الذي احرز الكرة برأسه ولكن قبل ان يمررها قام بايقاف الكرة بيده مما يجعل الهدف هدف باطلا وهو الهدف الذي اهل فرنسا لمونديال 2010 بعد ان فازت في هذه المباراة امام ايرلندا بهذا الهدف.
وقد قدمت ايرلندا احتجاجا رسميا للفيفا وطلبا باعادة المباراة وقد قوبل بالرفض برغم اعتراف اللاعب بانه لمس الكرة بيده علنا والى وسائل الاعلام.
(ملحوظة : لا تضعوا اي امل على اعادة مباراة مصر والجزائر، قد توقع عقوبات على اتحاد كرة القدم لكن ليس بارسال ايميلات للفيفا يتعاد المباراة ‍!)

الرئيس مبارك يحمل الجزائر مسئولية حماية المصريين الموجودين على اراضيها

في بيان صدر عن رئاسة الجمهورية طلب الرئيس حسني مبارك استدعاء سفير الجزائر بالقاهرة لكى ينقل له مطالبة مصر للجزائر بأن تتحمل مسئولياتها فى حماية المواطنين المصريين الموجودين على أراضيها ومختلف المنشآت والمصالح المصرية بالجزائر.
وكان الرئيس مبارك قد عقد اجتماعا موسعا صباح اليوم الخميس بحضور كل من رئيس مجلس الوزراء ورئيسى مجلسى الشعب والشورى، ووزراء الشئون القانونية، والداخلية، والطيران المدنى، والخارجية، والإعلام، والإسكان، ورئيس المخابرات العامة، ورئيس ديوان رئيس الجمهورية، ورئيس أركان حرب القوات المسلحة، ورئيس المجلس القومى للرياضة.

وكان الرئيس مبارك قد تابع بنفسه وصول المصريين قادمين من السودان بعد الاحداث المؤسفة التي اعقبت مباراة مصر والجزائر الفاصلة دون خسائر في الارواح وان المواطن كريم التي قالت صحيفة اليوم السابع انه قد قتل هو مصاب فقط وهناك معلومات عن وجود صلة قرابة بينه وبين الفنان احمد السقا.

وقد فازت الجزائر بهدف وحيد احرزه اللاعب عنتر يحيى وفي تعقيب بعد المباراة اعرب حسن شحاتة انه ليس حزين وان اللاعبين ادوا ما عليهم ولكن الحظ لم يحالفهم وهذا هو رأي غالبية الشارع المصري فيما ظهرت علامات الحزن على كثير من اللاعبين خصوصا عمرو زكي واحمد عيد عبدالملك وشريف عبد الفضيل، في حين حملت بعض وكالات الانباء الفرنسية اللاعب محمد ابوتريكة مسؤولية خسارة منتخب مصر وانه لم يكن في مستواه واضاع فرص وكانت تمريراته خاطئة.

يذكر ان هناك محاولات جارية لايقاع عقوبات على اتحاد كرة القدم الجزائري حيث تم رفع شكوة ومذكرة بكافة الاحداث الى الفيفا التي كانت بدورها قد حذرت بشدة كلا الطرفين قبل المباراة وهددت بفرض عقوبات تصل الى حد الحرمان من الصعود للتصفيات...

عاجل : مقتل مشجع مصري ضربا على يد الجزائريين بالسودان

تم تكذيب الخبر من قبل وزير الاعلام المصري انس الفقي فيما تسري انباء ان المواطن كريم اصيب بطعنه وهو الان يعالج بالسودان كما توافرت معلومات ان كريم تربطه علاقة نسب بالفنان احمد السقا

افادت جريدة اليوم السابع منذ قليل عن مقتل شاب مصري في السودان على يد الجماهير الجزائرية بعد ان اخذوا يلاحقون المصريين في شوارع السودان مثل البربر الهائج بمنتهى الهمجية والحيوانية حتى امسكوا بشاب مصري واوسوعه ضربا حتى لفظ انفاسه الاخيرة.

ومازالت الجماهير الجزائرية تواصل مطاردة المصريين بعدما قاموا بقطع الطريق المؤدى للمطار السودانى.

بينما استغاث الفنان محمد فؤاد والفنان هيثم شاكر بالقيادات المصرية للتحرك واصفين موقفهم بانه حرج وانهم يتعرضون للموت بينما تاكدت اصابة الفنان محمد فؤاد.

إصابة رئيس مكتب وزير الصحة بمصر انفلوانزا الخنازير

في واحدة من الطرائف الحزينة او ما يسميه البعض " سخرية القدر" اصاب مرض انفلونزا الخنازير رئيس قطاع مكتب وزير الصحة وهو الان بحالة وصفت انها جيدة ويتماثل للشفاء.
كما تم التأكيد ان رئيس مكتب وزير الصحة لم يتلق المصل الواق ضد مرض انفلونزا الخنازير حيث يقتصر التطعيم في الفترة الحالية على الحجاج واعضاء اللجنة العليا لمكافحة مرض انفلونزا الخنازير ولكنه لم يكن ضمن أعضاء هذه اللجنة.

وقد جاءت النتيجة الاولية للمعمل ايجابية تفيد اصابته بالفيروس ولكنه الان يتماثل للشفاء في بيته.

سذكر ان الوزير حاتم الجبلي كان من اوائل المصريين الذين اخذوا التطعيم وذلك كان في بث تلفزيوني لتطمانة الناس والحث على من يجب عليهم التطعيم التوجه لاخذه.
والاشخاص الذين لهم الاولوية في التطعيم ضد المرض هم حسب الاهمية : الاطباء والعاملون بالمجال الصحي والتمريض، المسافرون والحجاج، الطلبة... كما يذكر ان عدد الامصال حاليا وصل الى مليون ونصف المليون مصل في ظل انباء غير مؤكدة عن تداول الامصال في
السوق السوداء.

استطاع الفريق الجزائري الفوز بمبارته امام مصر التي اقيمت بالسودان اليوم 18 نوفمبر بنتيجة 1 - صفر
احرز هدف المباراة الوحيد اللاعب عنتر يحي من كرة عرضية اسكنها ببراعة في الشباك
وقد اهدر الفريقين العديد من الفرص ابرزها لمصر فرصة عماد متعب وفرصة عمرو زكي
وقد لعب الفريق المصري بشكل مشرف ولكن الحظ لم يحالفه

وبذلك تصبح الجزائر المنتخب العربي الوحيد الذي يصل لنهائيات كاس العالم 2010 بجنوب افريقيا ونرجو من الله ان يوفقه ويشرف العرب في المونديال.
